Volunteers

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers play a critical role in the Naval Horizons program. The Naval Horizons program is designed to cultivate the future of STEM research by offering an opportunity for talented students to learn from you, our experienced professionals. While Naval Horizons works to broaden participation of students, we also want to broaden the participation of our DoN STEM professionals who also benefit from interacting with student participants. We invite you to join us in this exciting program!

Top students with interest in STEM careers apply to the program offering a chance for volunteers to harness their youth, their creativity, and their drive to contribute to Naval research. Getting involved in Naval Horizons is an excellent way to inspire these students and guide them towards reaching their full potential. It also provides an opportunity to tap into streams of upcoming talent that will benefit your department in the future.

What's Involved?

Student participants submit essays on their views of the state of technology and the future of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Each essay will be between 500 and 1,500 words (about 1-3 pages). Volunteers will read and evaluate essays via the web application for vision and technical sufficiency.

Since Naval Horizons is a virtual program, the program is completed fully online so evaluations can be completed from the comfort of your own desk.

Who's Eligible?

Any and all Department of Navy civilian and military professionals are eligible to volunteer.
